About this page
The starter slices are seats, not students: Seat 1 through Seat 8. That is deliberate. A projector can pick a seat before you trust a roster to a browser, and you can replace the seats with names when you are ready. Agree on the rule first. 'Whoever it lands on answers' is different from 'that seat asks the next question.' Remove winner if the point is to spread turns. Leave the name in if a student may be called twice. Absent students should come off the list before you spin, not after, or the spinner will keep offering a desk that is empty. Motion can be reduced in the operating system. The pick still happens. The list remains on this device until you clear it.

How can a teacher use this fairly?
Publish the rule, spin in view of the room, and accept the slice. Editing the list after a disliked result is a different rule, and students notice. If the goal is participation, remove winners as you go so the pool shrinks. If the goal is a single volunteer, one spin is enough.
Should I remove a student after they are picked?
When you want everyone once before anyone twice, yes. The button removes one matching line. The next spin is uniform over what remains. When you want a truly independent call each time, leave the list alone. Do not mix the two rules in one activity without saying so.
What if a student is absent?
Delete that line before Spin. A fair draw over the wrong population is still the wrong population. You can add the student back tomorrow. The stored list will not know your attendance book.
Does the spinner store the roster on a server?
No. Local storage only. That is convenient and it is a privacy limit: a shared laptop remembers the names. Clear ChanceKit lists from the privacy page when you log off a cart or a lab computer. Do not type sensitive notes into the wheel. It is a name list, not a gradebook.
How do I keep the pick visible?
The winning word stays under the wheel until the next spin. Copy result if you want it in a slide. The history strip lists earlier spins from this visit. A reload clears the history and keeps the list.
What if spinning makes someone dizzy?
Turn on reduced motion in the system settings. ChanceKit skips the long rotation and shows the chosen slice in place. The draw is identical. You can also ignore the disc and read the word, which is the actual result.
How do seats differ from a roster?
Seat labels survive a substitute teacher and do not store a child's name. They also pick a desk, which is wrong if the question was about a person who moved. Switch to names when the activity is about students, and delete absent seats when the activity is about who is in the room. The storage key for this page is separate from the name picker, so experimenting with seats does not erase a roster you already typed on the other URL. Clear both from the privacy page when the computer is shared.
